Which other monuments of Serres are undergoing restoration work?



An autopsy was performed on the archaeological site of Amphipolis and on the works being carried out on the Kasta Tomb, during her visit to Serres by the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni. According to her, the maintenance and protection works will be completed within the revised timetables, which were set by the Ministry of Culture and the Region of Central Macedonia, from the Regional Operational Program of which they are financed with 1,800,000 euros, while the Ministry of Culture has an additional 400,000 euros from national resources.

"After the severe weather events of 2022, which affected the area and the Tomb of Kasta, the competent Department of Restoration of the Ministry of Culture took all the necessary measures to protect the monument. At the same time, studies are being prepared by the Ministry of Culture for the promotion of the monument and the creation of the necessary museum infrastructure and visitor service projects, so that the implementation of the projects can be financed within the framework of the 2021-2027 programming period," she said.

In addition, Lina Mendoni performed an autopsy on the Wooden Bridge of Amphipolis, the important technical work of the 5th c. BC, carried out by the Directorate of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments. It is within the framework of the projects, with funding of 1,200,000 euros, from the Recovery Fund, which the Ministry of Culture carrying out throughout the country. The project is progressing with no problems and will be completed at the end of 2025.

 


The working visit also included autopsies by the Minister of Culture at the Mehmet Bey (Hagia Sophia) and Mustafa Bey Mosques, two important monuments of the city, the protection and promotion of which has already been planned and at the Timios Prodromos (John the Baptist) Monastery, of the 13th century. where a major restoration project is underway to restore the south wing which, in 2010, was heavily damaged by fire.
