Excavation of Philippi: Students from the University of Thessaloniki discovered the head of a statue of Apollo

15 students took part in the excavation - The head dates back to the 2nd or early 3rd century. A.D. and probably adorned a fountain at Philippi.

On Friday, September 15, 2023, the excavation research carried out by the team of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Philippi under the direction of the professor of Byzantine Archaeology Natalia Poulos and with direct collaborators the assistant professor of Byzantine Archaeology Anastasios Tantsis, as well as the emeritus professor of Byzantine Archaeology Aristotle Mentzos, was completed.
